About this model
The Chaparral 1 was the first racing car to carry the Chaparral name and marked the beginning of one of the most innovative programs in motorsport history. Developed by Jim Hall and Hap Sharp in collaboration with Troutman & Barnes, the Chaparral 1 featured a lightweight tubular steel spaceframe clothed in hand-formed aluminum bodywork and powered by Chevrolet's all-aluminum 327 cu. in. (5.4-liter) V8. Combining American V8 power with a lightweight chassis, the Chaparral quickly established itself as a formidable contender in North American sports car racing and served as the foundation for the revolutionary Chaparral cars that followed.
This Marsh Models 1:43 scale replica faithfully recreates the #10 Chaparral 1 driven by Bob Donner and Ronnie Hissom in the 1963 12 Hours of Sebring. Entered alongside the sister #9 car of Jim Hall and Hap Sharp, the Donner/Hissom Chaparral represented one of America's best hopes against the dominant Ferraris. After surviving much longer than the sister car, which retired after just 15 laps, the #10 remained competitive until differential failure ended its race after completing 56 laps. Although officially classified as a DNF, the car demonstrated the promise of the Chaparral concept in one of the world's toughest endurance races and provided valuable experience that contributed to the development of the championship-winning Chaparrals that followed.
Expertly handcrafted by Marsh Models, this limited-production 1:43 scale resin model captures the early Chaparral 1 in outstanding detail. The classic white race livery, smooth aluminum bodywork, distinctive oval grille, Halibrand-style racing wheels, open cockpit, detailed dashboard, and authentic Sebring race markings are faithfully reproduced. Produced in limited numbers, this museum-quality model is an outstanding addition for collectors of Chaparral racing cars, early American sports prototypes, and the golden era of endurance racing.
