About this model
The Chaparral 1 was the car that launched one of the most innovative names in motorsport history. Originally designed and built by Troutman & Barnes, the Chaparral 1 featured a lightweight steel tubular spaceframe clothed in hand-laid aluminum bodywork and was powered by Chevrolet's proven all-aluminum small-block V8. Jim Hall and Hap Sharp campaigned the car with considerable success before founding Chaparral Cars, where the engineering philosophies developed with the Chaparral 1 would lead to the revolutionary Chaparral 2 series and forever change sports car racing.
This Marsh Models 1:43 scale replica faithfully recreates the #9 Chaparral 1 driven by Hap Sharp and Jim Hall in the 1963 12 Hours of Sebring. Entered in one of the world's most demanding endurance races, the American-built sports racer faced fierce competition from Ferrari, Maserati, Porsche, and Corvette. Although Hall and Sharp showed the Chaparral's potential, mechanical problems forced the team to retire before the finish, resulting in a DNF. Despite the disappointing outcome, the Sebring experience proved invaluable and directly influenced the development of the groundbreaking Chaparral 2, which would return to Sebring just two years later to claim an overall victory.
Expertly handcrafted by Marsh Models, this limited-production 1:43 scale resin model captures the early Chaparral in outstanding detail. The classic white race livery, smooth aluminum bodywork, distinctive oval grille, Halibrand-style racing wheels, open cockpit, detailed dashboard, and authentic Sebring race markings are faithfully reproduced. Produced in limited numbers, this museum-quality model is an outstanding addition for collectors of Chaparral racing cars, Jim Hall memorabilia, and the golden era of American sports car racing.
