About this model
The Chaparral 2F remains one of the most technically significant sports prototypes ever built, showcasing the visionary engineering of Jim Hall and Chaparral Cars. Introduced for the 1967 World Sportscar Championship, the 2F featured a lightweight fiberglass semi-monocoque chassis, a powerful 7.0-litre Chevrolet V8, and its revolutionary suspension-mounted adjustable rear wing. At a time when aerodynamic downforce was still largely unexplored, the Chaparral's innovative design transformed the way racing cars generated grip, laying the foundation for modern prototype and Formula One engineering. Although reliability often hampered its results, the 2F's influence on motorsport remains immeasurable.
This Marsh Models 1:43 scale kit recreates the famous #7 Chaparral 2F driven by Phil Hill and Mike Spence in the 1967 24 Hours of Le Mans. The innovative American prototype arrived at Le Mans with tremendous pace, qualifying on the front row after demonstrating remarkable speed during practice, narrowly missing pole position. Spence steadily worked the car into contention, and the Chaparral ran among the leading contenders throughout the evening and into the early morning hours. Unfortunately, a transmission oil seal failure shortly after dawn forced an extended pit repair. Although the Chaparral returned to the race to the applause of the Le Mans crowd, the gearbox ultimately failed for good after 225 laps, ending what had been one of the race's most promising performances. Despite the disappointment, the 2F's speed and advanced aerodynamics left an unforgettable impression on competitors and spectators alike.
Expertly produced by Marsh Models, this highly detailed 1:43 scale resin kit accurately captures the Le Mans specification of the Chaparral 2F. The distinctive white bodywork, towering high-mounted rear wing, enclosed cockpit, wide fenders, Texas license plates, and purposeful aerodynamic profile are faithfully reproduced, making this an exceptional model of one of endurance racing's most iconic and innovative machines. It is an essential addition for collectors of classic Le Mans competitors, Chaparral racing cars, and groundbreaking sports prototypes that changed the course of motorsport history.
