About this model
The Lotus 40 was Colin Chapman's ambitious successor to the highly successful Lotus 30 sports-racing car. Introduced for the 1965 season, the Lotus 40 featured a lightweight aluminum monocoque chassis with fiberglass bodywork and was designed to accept a variety of high-performance V8 engines. For American competition, the car was powered by Ford's formidable 351 cu. in. (5.8-litre) V8, giving it the performance needed to challenge the dominant McLarens, Lolas, and Chaparrals in the fiercely competitive United States Road Racing Championship (USRRC). Although the Lotus 40's racing career was relatively brief, its elegant styling and advanced engineering have made it one of the most admired sports-racing cars of the 1960s.
This Tecnomodel 1:43 scale replica faithfully recreates the #5 Lotus 40 driven by American racing legend A. J. Foyt at the Riverside 200 Miles in 1965. One of the most versatile drivers in motorsport history, Foyt was equally at home in Indy cars, stock cars, sports cars, and endurance racing. His appearance in the Lotus 40 at Riverside showcased his remarkable adaptability as he competed against many of the era's finest road racers in one of America's premier sports car events. Although the Lotus 40 never fulfilled its full competitive potential, Foyt's participation added another fascinating chapter to both the car's history and his extraordinary career. A practice accident kept Foyt's Lotus 40 out of the race itself, making this one of the more obscure footnotes in the car's short competition history — and a worthwhile addition for collectors who track the "what could have been" entries as closely as the race winners.
Expertly handcrafted by Tecnomodel, this premium resin replica captures the Lotus 40 in exceptional detail. The classic White bodywork, sleek fiberglass coachwork, low-profile nose, exposed cockpit, Halibrand-style racing wheels, detailed interior, and authentic Riverside race markings are faithfully reproduced. Presented on a display base beneath a clear acrylic cover, this museum-quality model is an outstanding addition for collectors of classic sports-racing cars, Lotus competition history, A. J. Foyt memorabilia, and 1960s American road racing.
